Man Booker Prize Longlist Announced

The longlist for the Man Booker Prize for fiction was unveiled yesterday in London. The chair of judges said, "We are delighted by the quality and breadth of our longlist, which emerged from an impassioned discussion. The list ranges from the Wild West to multi-ethnic London via post-Cold War Moscow and Bucharest, and includes four first novels."
We at Book Passage are also delighted because two of the authors on the longlist will be appearing at our store this Fall. Their book titles and names are in bold, followed by the date of their appearance. One other author, whose name is in red, gave a reading at Book Passage in June. This year's longlist:

The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes
On Canaan's Side by Sebastian Barry (September 25th)
Jamrach's Menagerie by Carol Birch
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt (a few signed copies still available - 2nd printing)
Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan
A Cupboard Full of Coats by Yvvette Edwards
The Stranger's Child by Alan Hollinghurst (October 29th)
Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman
The Last Hundred Days by Patrick McGuinness
Snowdrops by A.D. Miller
Far to Go by Alison Pick
The Testament of Jessie Lamb by Jane Rogers
Derby Day by D.J. Taylor

The shortlist will be announced September 6th, with the winner revealed October 18th during a dinner at London's Guildhall. And that's not all . . . . we are pleased to announce that two other past Booker Prize winners, Anne Enright (October 12th) and Michael Ondaatje (October 19th) are also coming to our store to read from their new novels! Each are events not to be missed.

Prize winners abound at Book Passage: and as well, two winners of Pulitzer Prize in fiction are also appearing at author events our store. Michael Chabon (September 22th) and Jeffrey Eugenides (October 14th) will both present their new work at Book Passage.
