Over simplified, Robert Alan Soloway was arrested for spamming. Good. Part of his sentence should be to handwrite a personal apology--it has to be handwritten, you can't ever let this guy near a computer again--to every person who received a spam e-mail from him. A sort of 'write a hundred times on the blackboard' type of punishment. Then, when he completes that, let him begin his sentence in prison. Hopefully decades. With hardened criminals who like violence.
