In the process of researching articles, essays and fiction pieces I’ve written over the years, I’ve gathered some very interesting and odd pieces of world trivia.
In the spirit of fun, and in keeping with the theme of my presentation at 4 p.m. Sat., May 29, An Evening in the Sahara Desert: Food, Photos Facts and a Reading by The Wind Thief author Martha Engber, I’ve come up with a world trivia quiz based on this wealth of minutia.
I wanted to offer a free copy of THE WIND THIEF to the first person who sends me the correct answers, but realized the Internet makes finding the answers easy.
Then I realized everyone is so busy that if even one of you takes the time to answer via my Q & A blog for writers, you’ve more than earned a free copy. I’ll post the answers in the same locale on Sun., May 30.
Martha’s Very Short World Knowledge Trivia Quiz
- Where is the Le Jardin d'Essai located?
- Who does the fruit Blighia sapida (ackee) honor?
- Where does the world’s annual Cheese-Rolling Event take place? (Extra points if you state what cheese is used.)
- What’s an empanada and what do you do with it?
- What are the following lines of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner about?
Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.
Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink.
