I arrived late-ish last night in Oakland and was promptly whisked off to Sea Salt restaurant in Berkeley. Mmm...west coast oysters. I spend probably three or four months a year out in the west coast, either in the Pacific Northwest or in Los Angeles, and I will never get over how much fresher everything is in general out here. Not that NYC isn't a fabulous place to get some food, but I always get the feeling in restaurants here that someone just went out back and caught it, plucked it, or killed it right before they served it to me.
Anyway I am looking forward to a wonderful weekend here, reading tomorrow, Saturday, at the Makeout Room as part of the Writers with Drinks series, and of course on Sunday at the Book Passage in Corte Madera. Today I am heading into the city from Oakland to go to SFMOMA, where one of my hosts work. I'm just really excited about getting out there and having a nice day in San Francisco. It's one of my favorite cities in the world.
Thanks to the nice folks at Book Passage for letting me take over their blog with my unwieldy entries this week, and for letting me read at their store. Even if you can't make the reading, I do hope you'll support Book Passage, and other independent book stores. They are an a important part of the cultural discourse as well as of your community. They need your help to survive, and it's quite simple to help. Just buy a book!
